alpha lipoic acid creamAlpha Lipoic Acid Cream – The Truth Revealed

Alpha lipoic acid cream is arguably the most exciting anti aging breakthrough in years. Alpha lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant that has been used as a dietary supplement since the nineties. But more recently, scientists across the globe are discovering the astonishing anti aging benefits it can have on your skin.

In university studies, evidence suggest that it helps your body restore glutathione, which is a ultra powerful antioxidant that helps to detoxify your cells and destroys free radicals. This is a compound which bodies produce when they’re younger, but your production tapers off as you age. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps prevent cross linking, which is a destructive molecular process that causes your arteries to harden and your skin to wrinkle. So you can see why alpha lipoic acid skin care is so exciting. That’s why more and more top anti aging wrinkle cream treatments use this ingredient.

There are a handful of companies which now use lipoic acid in their skin care products. For the most part this ingredient is only sold as a supplement since its use in wrinkle creams is an even newer phenomenon. Because it’s obviously important to protect your entire body instead of just your skin, it comes as no surprise that many people are choosing to use both the supplement form and the topical cream. However we all have unique medical situations, so please consult your doctor to see if this is right for you. Also you should keep in mind this is not something that is meant to prevent, cure, or treat any disease. I have no formal medical background so I can’t give advice. Instead what I aim to do is use this site as a central source to discuss the research and studies which have been done and keep readers up to speed on the latest anti aging developments.

Okay, now that we have that out of the way, let’s take a closer look at some of the common questions people have about ALA:

Where Does Alpha Lipoic Acid Come From?
Many foods contain at least some degree of this antioxidant, including vegetables, fruits, and meats. However the amount they have is so little, even if you ate pure liver which contains a relatively higher amount, you would need to consume a whopping ten tons of it to get the same amount that you would in a supplement. So it appears that no matter what we eat, it’s not possible to get an optimal amount of this from our diet alone.

Alpha Lipoic Acid Dosage

So far, studies seem to point to there being a threshold as to how much your body can actually absorb and use at any given time, as is the case with most antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. For health individuals, many take somewhere between 30 and 300mg daily. But for those with certain health conditions, such as diabetes, there is evidence that as much as 600 to 1,800 mg daily may be more beneficial. Like most oral supplements, its probably better to spread out your intake throughout the day (such as taking one pill three times a day, rather than just taking it all in one dose).

Of course when it comes to skin creams, the dosage is different than the supplement form. You want a product that has at least a sufficient amount. So be wary of some cheaper products which may advertise this as ingredient, but only do so as a marketing gimmick, when in reality they put very little inside.

Alpha Lipoic Acid Benefits
The suspected benefits reach far beyond what we have previously discussed. For example, the first clinical studies with ALA and humans too place during the seventies. Through an IV, high doses were given to 79 patients suffering from severe liver damage, and out of those, a whopping 75 were able to gain back full function of their livers. There have also been promising findings relating to helping other diseases like diabetes, neurological conditions like Parkinson’s disease, and some forms of cancer. But if you or a loved suffer from these, please keep in mind that although this may sound exciting, further research needs to be done to determine if it truly is effective or not. You definitely should talk to your doctor before you start using it as supplement.

Best Alpha Lipoic Acid
I don’t know if there is a best, per say. Rather, when shopping for it I would pay close attention to the products’ concentrations in deciding which one is the “best.”

My opinion on the matter is that even though further research needs to be done, there is just too much exciting data about this to ignore. Because it is relatively affordable, I feel it’s smart to take advantage of it either way. The last thing I would want to do is ignore it, and then down the road studies are completed to prove its effectiveness… and I missed out on using it during that time. I prefer to stay ahead of the curve and get in on it.
